So I don't create a configuration instructions page

| Alaudae.JP

The reason why there are so few Joomla! setup procedure pages and my experience

Anyone who wants to build a website using a CMS like Joomla! would expect detailed setup instructions in Japanese. In particular, the initial installation and initial settings are explained on many sites.

However, when it comes to adding extensions and detailed configuration methods, I feel that information is often lost. Why on earth is this?

Why are there so few setting procedure pages?

1. Information becomes outdated quickly.

Software, not just Joomla!, is frequently updated. There is a high possibility that the configuration procedures you have created will not work in the next version. Therefore, it is very difficult to keep providing the latest information.

2. Shortage of Japanese developers

Certainly, one reason may be the small number of Japanese developers, but an even bigger factor is that information quickly becomes outdated.

3. Burden on authors and bloggers

Explaining the configuration steps in detail is a time-consuming and labor-intensive task. In particular, it can be a huge burden for authors and bloggers to keep revising procedures every time a new version comes out.

Thinking from my experience

When I was buying books about Mac OS X, I found that every time a new OS came out, the books became useless. I realized that the information quickly became outdated, so I stopped buying books.

When I wrote about updating macOS Catalina on my blog, I realized how difficult it was to explain all the detailed steps by myself. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to write procedures for every case so that all users can operate it smoothly every time, so I don't want to do it unless I really feel like it.

Characteristics of people who can do these things without any discomfort

People who regularly take some kind of precautions or who have good problem-solving skills tend to be able to respond relatively smoothly even when new versions are released. This is because I have a habit of researching things myself and doing trial and error rather than just reading manuals.

As a result

The reason why there are few pages on Joomla!'s setup instructions is that the information quickly becomes outdated and it is a heavy burden on authors and bloggers. Software evolves quickly, but it is not easy to keep up with it.

It is important for users to have some knowledge and problem-solving skills rather than relying on detailed instruction manuals, and it is also a good idea to use communities and online forums to exchange information with other users.
